Although it's a paid game, you may find yourself having to make payments - or at least 'grind' by repetitively playing side missions - in order to defeat certain opponents to progress through the story. There are side missions which allow you to earn credits to purchase items or unlock new skills. The city is also dotted with collectibles, including hundreds of comic pages which unlock vintage comic books from throughout Spider-Man's publishing history.The action in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is essentially based around whizzing above the city on your webs, then splashing down to kick some butt or help out someone in need. And, of course, if you're about to get hit, the ol' Spidey-sense will tingle. Combat is all about chaining together combos, but you can also use your wall-crawling and web-swinging to take enemies by surprise. If you've played one of Rocksteady's Arkham games, you'll get the basic concept of The Amazing Spider-Man: you travel around a vast open world, battling baddies and completing side missions, when you feel like it, you can progress with the main story missions. For much of the game, however, the fun comes from web-swinging around New York battling crooks and supervillains in side missions. Set a few months after the events of the first film, the game pits Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy against mad scientist Alistair Smythe.
